Proteomics Scientist at the iHuman Institute, ShanghaiTech University

We are recruiting highly motivated and collaborative Proteomics Scientists for full time Group Leader, Postdoctoral Scholar, and Research Technician positions in the Krogan Lab at the iHuman Institute, ShanghaiTech University. The Krogan lab utilizes proteomic and genomic systems biology techniques to study disease areas, including cancer, infectious disease, cardiovascular disease, and psychiatric conditions.  At ShanghaiTech we will leverage a powerful combination of structural proteomics and functional CRISPR-based technologies to research GPCR signaling, structure, and function  important in human disease.

Professor Krogan has a well-established team working from the world renowned University of California - San Francisco (UCSF) and J. David Gladstone Institutes, both based in San Francisco, California.  In addition, he holds a position as adjunct professor at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in San Diego, California where he oversees the development of proteomic technologies. The Krogan Lab at ShanghaiTech will be integrated into the US-based labs and expected to contribute to overall goals of our various mapping initiatives, while also establishing a strong presence and collaboration at iHuman Institute.

Group Leader Position:

  • Expectations: The group leader will be expected to manage and organize all projects, day-to-day operations, budgets, and personnel aspects of the Krogan lab at ShanghaiTech.  This will include leading and managing junior and senior researchers of the ShanghaiTech team (approximately 5-6 members), including postdocs, students, bioinformaticians and technicians.  The group leader will also oversee the operation and maintenance of all instruments and facilities in the lab. Most importantly, the group leader will ensure seamlessly integration, collaboration, and communication with Krogan Lab based in San Francisco and San Diego through written and oral reports, weekly lab meetings (virtual attendance), and bi-annual site visits to USA Krogan labs.
  • Requirements: PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related field, and minimum of 3 years of postdoc or industry training.  Experience and technical expertise in the latest proteomics and mass spectrometry-based techniques and analyses, with preference given to candidates having knowledge of HDX, XL-MS, or Native-MS approaches. Strong communication and writing skills in English and Chinese.

Postdoctoral Scholar Position:

  • Requirements: PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related field. Interest in systems and structure biology of GPCRs, particularly in relation to disease areas of cancer, infectious disease, or psychiatric disease. Preference given to candidates experienced with proteomics and mass spectrometry-based techniques and analyses, including HDX, XL-MS, or Native-MS approaches. Strong communication and writing skills in English and Chinese preferred.

Technician Position:

  • Requirements: Masters or B.S. (with two years experience) in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related field. Highly organized and diligent, great attention to detail and note-taking.  Experience with protein biochemistry and molecular biology will be beneficial. Preference given to candidates experienced in any of the following: cloning, protein expression in mammalian tissue culture, CRISPR-Cas based genetics, primary cell culture and isolation, protein affinity purification, and chemical or antibody-based peptide enrichment (e.g. phosphopeptide, di-Gly peptide).

We offer a unique opportunity to lead a diverse team in a highly dynamic work environment, and to collaborate with world-renowned international scientists. A competitive annual salary will be decided based on University salary scale according to candidate’s work experience and qualifications.
